Heatley State School has continued its tradition of participating in the annual North Queensland region Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Aspirations Program (ATSIAP).

The ATSIAP program began as a state-wide initiative 30 years ago. Aunty Joan McKay, Regional CEC from NQ Region was part of the original organising group back in the day and has kept it alive in North Queensland.

ATSIAP is about inspiring young indigenous students to excel by expanding their critical and creative thinking. Throughout all of term 2, Heatley teachers and our CEC, Miss Patty have met with a group of Heatley indigenous students over many lunch hours to plan and prepare for this challenge.

This year's Junior ATSIAP challenge day was held on Wednesday 24 July - we entered one team and they came first in the artwork challenge and third in the overall competition.
