Congratulations to our ATSIAP students

Heatley State School has continued its tradition of participating in the annual North Queensland region Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Aspirations Program (ATSIAP).

The ATSIAP program began as a state-wide initiative 30 years ago. Aunty Joan McKay, Regional CEC from NQ Region was part of the original organising group back in the day and has kept it alive in North Queensland.
ATSIAP is about inspiring young indigenous students to excel by expanding their critical and creative thinking. Throughout all of term 2, several Heatley teachers and our CEC, Miss Patty have met with a group of Heatley indigenous students over many lunch hours to plan and prepare for this challenge.
Junior ATSIAP was held at JCU on Tuesday 17 July. Heatley sent two student teams and several student observers along with ATSIAP support teachers, Mr Ben Oliver, Ms Kerry Jackson, Mrs Donna Lewis and Miss Patty.
Heatley placed 1st and 3rd overall, with excellent team results:
Team 1: 1st place for Long Term Problem Solving
Team 2: 2nd place for Long Term Problem Solving
Team 2: 2nd place for Persuasive Oral
Team 2: 2nd place for Art
What an excellent result.  Congratulations to everyone involved.
