Queensland Police Service, School Support Officer - Shannon Newell
Shannon joins our school community from the Queensland Police Service – though Shannon is not a sworn Police Officer. Shannon is a part of the School Support Officer Program and has a degree in Criminology and a graduate certificate in Forensic Psychology with several years’ experience working with adults in custody.
The School Support Officer Program is designed to support the school community to ensure that students have access and participation to learning opportunities. The program is committed to working collaboratively with the school communities to deliver improved educational and social outcomes for children and their families, utilising a best practice multicultural lens.
The School Support Officer is committed to respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights in every-thing they do. The School Support Officer’s role aims to immerse ourselves in the school communities through program delivery, attendance at the school, assemblies and events ie adopt a cop, transition days, parent days and sports carnivals. The School Support Officer has the capacity to deliver programs, tailored to target emerging trends identified by the school community and needs.
Shannon is looking forward to being a part of our school community and we will be seeing his face around the school; he is happy for you to stop him and say hello. He loves to play footy on the oval at lunchtime.
