Students at Heatley State School have the opportunity to audition for instrumental music instruction from year 3 for stringed instruments and from year 4 for brass, woodwind and percussion instruments:Year 3 - violin, viola and cello
Years 4-6 - flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion
Our music department run a 'recruitment' process in the year before students can start their chosen instrument. For example, year 2 students who would like to learn a stringed instrument when they start year 3 OR year 3 students who would like to learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument when they start year 4. If you would like to learn an instrument in 2025, please have a chat to Mrs Rush who can help you with the application process.
Students who are selected to participate in the instrumental music program have access to a loan instrument for their first year of instruction and one small group lesson per week during school time.
Students in the program who practice regularly and reach an appropriate standard, will have the opportunity to play in musical ensembles or bands. These musical groups rehearse together during break times (or before/after school) in preparation for public performances - parade, parent & community members or public performances.
Students who are new to the school can apply to join the program if they are in year 3 (strings only) or year 4, 5, 6 (strings, brass, woodwind or percussion) if they have an interest in learning an instrument or if they were playing an instrument at their previous school.
