In accordance with the Department’s P-12 Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework, our school has a Homework Policy.

Evidence-based research has informed our decision that homework at Heatley SS is not compulsory.

The best homework is to read every day or be read to every day. Daily reading is the single best thing you can do to improve your child’s academic results. It doesn’t have to be a book. Magazines, newspapers, recipes, instructions etc. anything that interests a child. Research shows us that reading more improves performance in: general knowledge, vocabulary, reading comprehension, verbal fluency and spelling.

We do offer an opt-in home reading program - this is especially encouraged in Prep, year 1 and year 2 when students are in the learning to read phase. Please advise your student's class teacher if you wish to participate. Notes will be sent home with students in P-2 as needed.

Books/texts sent home for home reading are intended to practice the concepts taught in the classroom and be read independently to encourage enjoyment and building confidence with their reading.
