Inter-school sport is offered in Townsville schools by Townsville School Sport. Weekly inter-school sport is divided into 3 seasons over the school year. A variety of sports are offered each season and schools make their own decisions as to what they will offer based on student interest, teacher qualifications and resources.
Inter-school sport in Townsville is divided into Thuringowa (Thursday) and Townsville (Friday). Heatley is in the Thuringowa district. Draws and venue maps can be found on the Townsville School Sport webpage under the header District sports.
In 2021 Heatley made the decision to offer netball and rugby league to students in years 5 and 6. Two rugby league teams were selected, unfortunately there was not enough interest to form any netball teams.
As this is the first time in more than 5 years that inter-school sport has been offered, this will be the only inter-school sport offered in 2021. Parents have been asked to contribute to the cost of bus transport and this cost has also been subsidised by the school.
Decisions about future participation will be made each year. Considerations will include student behaviour, student attendance, parent payments and costs to the school.
Gala Days
One day carnivals are also offered at various times during the year. These carnivals require separate permissions to inter-school sport. In 2023, Heatley plans to participate in the following days:
- Bill Nettle Challenge - rugby league (winners in 2022)
- Townsville Blackhawks U10 Challenge - rugby league (runners up in 2022)
- Garbutt Magpies Cup - Australian rules
- Les Stagg Cup - rugby league (winners in 2022)
