Our school has 17 large single storey buildings, 10 of which contain our classrooms. We have spacious grounds with a very large oval and several large covered play areas.

The school is wheel chair and pram friendly.  The whole site is approximately 10 hectares in size.  Over recent years, we have had several facilities improvements.

Block refurbishments

Both L block and B block have been gutted inside and fully refurbished.

Large Covered Area

In 2016 the school’s P&C raised sufficient funds to contribute over $40,000 towards the construction of the first half of a large roof over the Year 1-2 eating area.  In 2017, the second half was built and Prep, year 1 and 2 students have a large weatherproof outdoor space to eat their lunch.

Special Education Program (SEP) Purpose Built Facility

In 2011 the school was provided with a new building to provide specialised facilities for the many children with special needs. It is set up for use with mainly the Early Childhood Development Program and other young children in the SEP in Prep and Year 1.

State Schools of Tomorrow

In 2010 the state government funded a project which enabled us to build a very large car park for parents, visitors and staff. It features a safe set down and pick up area beside the Ray Dale Hall.

Building Education Revolution (BER)
In 2011 a new Library and Hall were opened. As part of the BER initiative, Heatley State School also had some other significant refurbishments (called National School Pride - NSP). Upgrades included: the large covered play area, refurbishment of the old library into new offices and refurbishment of two Special Ed Program classrooms to accommodate an Early Childhood Development Program. An official opening of these facilities occurred during the 40th Anniversary Celebrations, 29-30 April 2011.

Mr. Ray Dale, founding principal of Heatley SS opened the new Hall that was named after him on 29 April 2011. Sadly in 2013 Mr. Dale passed away at the age of 83.
Toy Shed
In 2008, a large shed was built at the back of the school through funding from Department of Communities and a partnership with Townsville Child's Play Association and Playgroup QLD. This is a Toy Library facility. The two community groups offer opportunities for parents to borrow good quality toys for their children.
