​​​​People, Culture & Country Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Project (Wearable Arts)

Fifteen year 6 students together with our CEC Miss Demi, Arts teacher Mrs Rush and Assistant Teacher Miss Gibbs attended the opening recently of the exhibition at the Townsville Civic Theatre. Heatley SS has actively participated in this program since 2019 which was recognised as the state winner at the 2020 Queensland Department of Education Showcase Awards for Excellence in schools.

Miss Demi, Mrs Rush, Miss Gibbs and volunteer parents have worked with the group of Year 6 students who elected or were selected to be in this project on Thursday afternoons during Terms 2 & 3.
They have done an amazing job and produced two beautiful wearable art pieces.
The exhibition includes work from many local primary and secondary schools and was open to the public at the Civic Theatre. Links to the catalogue of all artworks can be found on the Heatley Secondar​y College website. ​
